When to Fertilize a Lawn in Massachusetts

Late spring: feed and spot-treat weeds
Balanced feeding while growth is strong, plus broadleaf control on dandelions and clover while they're actively taking it up.

Summer: slow-release only
Heavy nitrogen in July burns lawns. A slow-release feeding carries the turf through the dry stretch without pushing growth it can't support.

Early fall: the important one
September feeding rebuilds everything summer took out and pairs perfectly with aeration and overseeding.

Late fall: winterizer
The last application feeds roots after top growth stops. It's the single biggest reason some lawns green up two weeks earlier than the neighbors'.
